What NFE.io is for

In Brazil every paid service needs an electronic invoice (NFS-e) issued through your city hall's system, and each city's system is different. NFE.io is an API that does this for you: when a customer pays, your app sends the sale data and NFE.io issues the invoice with the right city. It doesn't replace your registration: your company still needs a city tax registration and its own digital certificate.

How it plugs into your product

  1. 1Get your company's municipal registration and authorization to issue electronic invoices at your city hall, plus an A1 digital certificate.
  2. 2Build the integration in the free test environment, which simulates the city hall and needs no certificate.
  3. 3Sign a plan, register the company, upload the A1 certificate and enter the municipal registration.
  4. 4Call the API when a payment is confirmed (usually from your payment webhook) and email the invoice to the customer.

Does it fit your idea?

It fits if

  • A B2B SaaS that bills by card, Pix or boleto and needs every paid invoice to become an NFS-e automatically.
  • You issue 100 to 1,000 invoices a month and want one API for any city your company is in.
  • A developer team that wants to test the whole flow before having a certificate.

Look elsewhere if

  • You issue a few dozen invoices a month: the city hall's free portal or a cheaper plan elsewhere costs less.
  • You sell only on Hotmart or Kiwify and want a no-code panel connected to them.
  • Your company has no CNPJ yet or is still waiting for the city registration.

What people only find out after building

Read this before you build on it. Each item links to the official page that says so.

  • In production the city hall requires a digital signature, so an A1 certificate (.pfx file) becomes mandatory. Without the municipal registration, NFE.io can't issue on your behalf, and getting authorized at the city hall is on you.

  • Not every city works the same way. The docs tell you to check whether your city hall is served, and the API returns a status saying if that city's integration is certified.

  • The cheapest plan (100 invoices a month) is annual only, at R$1,075 a year. Monthly plans start at R$190 for 250 invoices, and the pricing page doesn't show the price per invoice above the limit.

What it costs in practice

Estimate for a SaaS with 200 paying customers, one invoice each per month: the monthly Base plan is R$190 (250 invoices), or R$1,825 a year (about R$152/month) on the annual Base. Add the A1 certificate, bought separately each year.
